OS Swap Sheet
WANTED posted Sept/Nov 2008, Jan 2009
The Slide Rule Loaner Program at the International Slide Rule Museum (ISRM)
is
gaining momentum, made possible by contributions from OS members.
As you might know I send these out at my cost with no charge to the
schools for up to a year at a time.
I need additional sets, one consisting of 25 log-log decitrig (wooden stocks prefered),
K&E 4081/4181/9081/68-1210's (or Dietzgen's with
similar scales 1731/1733/1734) Front: LL01, K, A [ B, T, ST, S ] D, L, LL1 and
Back: LL02, LL03, DF [ CF, CIF, CI, C ] D, LLL3, LL2
The other is a set of 25 Post Versalogs or Sun Hemmi/Hughes-Owens equivalent (I'm up to 11 now), so if any of
you have extras that you would be willing to part with, they will be put to good use.
I did get a request for a demonstration rule to accompany the sets, but I had
given the ones I had to the Computer History Museum. If anyone has any 4' Pickett's
at a reasonable cost, let me know, and I can loan them out as well.

Many thanks to Skip Zogopoulos and David Hecht for their
generous contributions of SR's for the program. They join George
Keane, Ted Hume, Tom Miller, James D. Clark, D. Boone and John R. Farley as
donors.
I also want to thank Otto van Poelje (Netherlands), Dr. Klaus
Kuhn and Peter Holland (Germany/Europe) and Robert Adams (Australia)
for offering matching sets in their countries and hosting the program
there through ISRM. (need hosts in England, Japan and Canada next).
The latest schools recently receiving SR's 2009 are Hood College
in Boston and South Brooklyn Community High School in NY. There are four other sets in use.
Let your local educators know about the program if you get the chance!

WANTED Jan 2009
As a consequence of my on-line exposure, I have been asked to help acquire/broker slide rules for other institutions.
Peggy Kidwell, the curator of Math History at the Smithsonian is
looking specifically for a Guedon and a Charvoz-Roos. I assume the former is the small SR made by OEM's by UNIS in France, and the later the pre- WWII version, when they made their own. She has also asked for a SR made in the 1700's. I've helped the Smithsonian with previous requests but I am now unable to provide her with these particular specimens.

WANTED posted Nov 2008, Jan 2009
My company manufactures pottery products and we use a calculator
(#2777) to calculate plaster usage for our molds. Our master mold
maker is in his 70s and has never used anything but the US Gypsum
plaster and cement calculator. Unfortunately, the one he has is worn
out and US Gypsum doesn't have them any more. If anyone has one that
they can give up, I would be very happy to trade some pottery from our web site.

On the Edinburgh and London based publisher of Ready Reckoners:
Gall & Inglis. The whole Gall and Inglis family was involved in
publishing. So information, images, etc on any family member would
be helpful and anything related to any of their Ready Reckoners
(particularly the Inglis "Flash" calculator series). Also information
on multiplication books like the Swedish Multi-Divi and Super/Triplex/Maximal
variants by Wilken Wilkenson would be welcome.

I'm planning to update my original JOS article on the Load Adjuster

made. The table will include plate numbers. I'd also like to include
serial numbers. The serial numbers can be found on the edges of the adjuster's

be most appreciated. I don't need the plate numbers which are on the face of each scale.
